Dr. Ballinger grew up in a small town on the Redwood coast in far Northern California. After serving on a Fast Attack Submarine in the early 1970’s he attended Texas A&M University and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. He has been in practice in Canyon since graduation. In his career he has done large animal, feedlot, emergency & small animal medicine. He was the consulting veterinarian for the Bureau of Land Management facility that housed and cared for approximately 3,000 mustangs. He has been small animal exclusive for about the last 20 years with particular interest in dermatology and surgery. In his spare time Dr. Ballinger enjoys spending time with family, especially his grandsons, cooking and eating, and riding and working on his motorcycle.
Amy Kirkland, DVM (Veterinarian): Dr. Kirkland is from Tuscaloosa Alabama where she grew up and graduated from the University of Alabama with her Bachelors in Biological Science. She then attended Ross University school of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2013. Dr. Kirkland is diligent and compassionate with every client and patient she encounters, working with our veterinary team to get your furry family member feeling better, as quickly as possible. She enjoys spending quality time with her cat, dog and husband.
Susie grew up in Canyon and has lived here her whole life, attending Canyon High school and then WT until she started working for the Canyon Veterinary Clinic in 1983. She was employed there until she joined our veterinary team in 1994. Susie has a certification in office management, canine and feline nutrition. Her everyday goal and mission is educating the community on caring for their four legged family members. Her pastimes include spending time with her rescue animals and training those animals which include three Great Pyrenes, three cats and a variety of farm animals.
Lisa grew up in Childress and attended and graduated from Childress High School. She then went to study criminal justice at VRJC in Vernon, Texas, that eventually brought her to a career in criminal justice with Texas Department of Criminal Justice where she gave 20 years of service. Lisa is also an AKC certified evaluator for the Canine Good Citizen program and the Starr Puppy program. Her discipline and complete dedication ensures that each task she carries out is completed to the very highest standard. Lisa grew up with dogs and cats and her passion for animals lead her to us in 2011. Lisa enjoys dog training, painting furniture & spending time with family.
Kirrah was born and grew up in Amarillo, where she attended and graduated from Tascosa High School in 2003. She then went on to attend college in Midland where she earned her associates in Applied Sciences and recently became a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has worked in veterinary technician positions in both Midland and Amarillo until she came to take care of the animals of Canyon at our facility. Kirrah’s passion and skill is apparent in each and every animal she cares for. During her free time Kirrah likes DIY projects, painting, and spending time with her family and friends.
Andi was brought up in Houston, where she attended and graduated from High School in 2012. She moved to Canyon thereafter and began attending college in the fall at WT A&M majoring in Pre-Veterinary Science. Most of her life Andi has cared for animals large and small. She enjoys Western and English horseback riding, barrel racing, and jumping. She has also spent some time tagging deer in Beeville, Texas. Her adventures eventually lead her to us in the summer of 2015. Andi is a hard worker and her compassion is clearly visible in her work. In her spare time she loves to hike, camp, and of course spend time with her dogs and horse.
Krystal was born in Louisiana where she attended High School, and graduated in 2004. Soon after she moved to Canyon and studied General Education at Amarillo College. Krystal has worked in human medicine as an assistant to a cardiovascular surgeon, phlebotomy procedures and preforming ultrasounds with a vascular sonographer. Her passion for the furry brought her to us in 2012, where she has dedicated her time and skills to healing the companion animals that come to us. Krystal is a proud mother and wife. Her hobbies include cooking, caring for her children and being an all-around home maker.
Whitney was born and raised here in Canyon. She is a graduate of Canyon High School and currently attends WTAMU, where she is majoring in Agribusiness and Economics. Whitney interned with us her senior year of high school and plans to continue her studies in veterinary medicine by attending Bel-Rea School of Veterinary Technology in Denver, CO. Whitney’s love for our furry friends is undeniable and it shows in the work she does every day. During her free time she likes to spend time with family, friends, and her German Shepherd, Cali!
Cali grew up in Fort Davis, TX where she also graduated high school in 2016. While there she worked for a wildlife biologist, doing pronghorn and deer surveys, CWD testing, cottonwood mapping, and dove banding. She then came to Canyon to attend WTAMU, majoring in wildlife Biology. Cali has grown up with multiple dogs, cats, and horses. Her passion for animals brought her to us in 2016. No matter what she does, she is compassionate and gives 110%. Cali loves reading, hiking, camping, and spending time with family, friends, and pets.
Erica began volunteering here in 2011. She has been employed here since 2015 while attending canyon High School. Erica has always been passionate about animals and their care. She received her certification as a Veterinary Assistant in 2016. She has been a great asset to our clinic and will be greatly missed when she departs for Texas Lutheran University in August of 2018. She enjoys spending time with her two dogs and being a part of the CHS Color Guard.
